E.B. Abel Jr. is the Chief Executive Officer of Resource Recovery, LLC. Mr. Abel's strong work ethic was born during his childhood on a dairy farm in York County and reinforced during his years in the U.S. Army in the early 1960's. After leaving the Army, he entered the construction business, starting as a laborer and working his way up to superintendent before starting E.B. Abel Construction Co. and Consolidated Construction Co. In 1993, after more than two decades in Central Pennsylvania construction, he exited the businesses. That "retirement" lasted just one year. Mr. Abel's next project, in 1995, was the development of the Bulle Rock public golf complex near Havre de Grace, Md. Always dedicated to being "the best," he hired world-renowned course designer Pete Dye to design the course, which has been ranked by Golf Digest as one of only 12 five-star golf courses in North America. More recently, after researching opportunities revolving around natural gas within the Marcellus Shale, he helped launch Resource Recovery LLC, with the mission of utilizing naural gas to produce marketable liquid products throughout the Northeast.
Troy Abel is the President and Chief Operating Officer of Resource Recovery, LLC. and President and Chief Executive Officer of The Abel Companies which includes Abel Construction Company, Inc. and Abel Recon, LLC. Mr. Abel has extensive site infrastructure experience through involvement in projects in the Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware, New Jersey, Ohio and District of Columbia region. Those projects have included residential subdivisions, industrial/commercial campuses, schools, health care facilities and golf course construction. His companies serve clients in managing and implementing complete site infrastructure packages, as well as infrastructure rehabilitation. He received a B.S. degree in Business Administration from Elizabethtown College. Mr. Abel has experience at all levels of the heavy construction industry and is responsible for the overall direction of his companies and very involved with initial client contact and negotiation.
Eric Barley is the Chief Financial Officer of Resource Recovery, LLC and The Abel Companies. He received a B.A. degree in Business Administration from Gettysburg College. Mr. Barley spent 10 years with Miller & Company, CPA's, a regional CPA firm in York and Chambersburg, PA (now part of Parente, LLP). Mr. Barley then joined The Abel Companies in 1991 as CFO and has been responsible for overseeing the company financial departments and maintaining and developing insurance, banking, and finance relationships. The Abel Companies includes Abel Construction Company, Inc. and Abel Recon, LLC which specialize site infrastructure services. Mr. Barley has been responsible for the financial aspects of The Abel Companies as well as additional ventures involving general contracting and golf course management.
Dr. Craig Smith is a member of the Board of Directors of Resource Recovery, LLC. He is an accomplished physician, clinical pharmacologist, and entrepreneur whose career during the past 40 years has spanned academic medicine, the bio-pharmaceutical industry, and environmental biotechnology. Dr. Smith began his career at The Johns Hopkins University, where he served as a Resident Physician and Assistant Chief of Service in the Department of Medicine. He then joined the medical faculty and co-founded the Division of General Internal Medicine. Dr. Smith was recruited by Centocor Inc to serve as VP of Clinical Research and then returned to Baltimore in 1993 and co-founded Guilford Pharmaceuticals Inc. Guilford marketed many successful products in the coming years and after eleven years Dr. Smith retired from the company, which was later successfully sold to MGI Pharma. In 2006, Dr. Smith co-founded Algenol Biofuels, Inc. and served as Chief Operating Officer with the company until 2014. He continues to serve on several boards of directors for companies and has gained experience in many facets of corporate governance and finance.
